It has the same drifting through corners mechanic, as well as collecting various attack or defence items on the track to use to your advantage. Familiar Kart gameplay | This might feel like a downside to some, as it doesn’t do a lot to innovate the genre, but anyone who’s played a few rounds of Mario Kart will instantly grasp the controls of Chocobo GP.Whenever you unlock a new character, you’ll instantly want to give it a try to get a feel for how they behave on the track and what their special ability brings to the table. Take Terra, for example, as seen in the screenshot above, riding the famous Magitek Armor from Final Fantasy VI. You’ll get to play as characters you know from the main games in equally familiar rides. Familiar faces | The biggest draw to the game is by far the Final Fantasy branding behind it.What we Liked! Terra from Final Fantasy VI in the signature Magitek Armor. ℹ️ Reviewed on Nintendo Switch| Review code provided by Nintendo, this review is the personal opinion from the writer. #ChocoboGP #NintendoSwitch /zEWfJ53rGL- BloodyGoodReviews™ □ Stop War March 10, 2022 The Final Fantasy victory fanfare never fails to trigger my nostalgia. Something that will ALWAYS succeed in just that, is hearing the Final Fantasy victory fanfare: There were a few memorable moments in Chocobo GP, but most of them boiled down to nostalgia or that great feeling of recognition when your brain realizes “I know this” and you instantly revisit long dormant parts of it that make you feel giddy like a kid on Christmas. In this review, we’ll obviously look at the game for its own merits, but don’t be alarmed if we compare it to MK8 here and there: both games are very much alike! The concept of Chocobo GP will surprise no one: it’s almost a carbon copy of what Mario Kart 8 does on the same platform, but with some Final Fantasy characters, tracks and music added into the mix to give that extra draw for fans of the series as well as suckers for nostalgia like myself. It’s not a genre Square Enix is totally new to either, with Chocobo Racing on the original PlayStation that was well received as a cult classic. However, most people don't care about that but are scared that the game will be too generic, that it might just be a rip-off of Mario Kart, but with some characters from Final Fantasy.LifeisXbox’s Chocobo GP review | The Nintendo Switch aims to keep its title as reigning platform for Kart Racing games with this latest Final Fantasy inspired one. SummaryĬhocobo GP seems like a fun kart racing game, but some people quickly realized that some tracks in the game are incredibly similar to some in Mario Kart 8. You will be able to play some of these modes either locally or online. And the last mode is Chocobo GP, where you get to face-off against other 63 players in a tournament to see who is the best. In time attack, you get to race against ghosts of others players, or your own, and see if you are faster than them. In custom races, you get to create your challenge by choosing the number of tracks and magicite. You can play through the campaign so that you can unlock all characters and courses, series races, where you play through 4 tracks in a row, and compete to see who gets the highest score. There are plenty of game modes for you to pick. Also, each character has unique abilities, and you can also customize your vehicles before the race. In the track, you will come across items known as magicite that you can get by driving through magic eggs, and you can use them to either help you or get in the way of the other racers. You can use a power-slide to make tight turns with more ease, and it will also give you a speed boost. You face off against other racers and use your abilities to come out as the winner. The game concept is very familiar with other kart racing games, like Mario Kart. We saw Steiner, Moogles, Vivi, and some popular summons in the trailers, like Shiva. All courses are from well-known locations from the games, like the Golden Saucer from Final Fantasy VII, Alexandria from Final Fantasy IX, and Zozo from Final Fantasy VI. Unlock them all, and race away in Chocobo GP Let's Go, Chocobo!Ĭhocobo GP is a kart racing game, where you get to choose your favorite Chocobo as a pilot, and you will also be able to unlock and use other characters from the Final Fantasy games. You will get to choose from many different Chocobo, and by playing through the campaign, you will unlock even more familiar characters for you to use. Many people are used to using them always to race around, and now they will finally be able to have a game of their own, where you will get to control them and use them for racing in this brand new kart racing game. Chocobos are extremely popular, and everyone loves just how cute and quirky they are.
